My father and I decided to go for a leisurely stroll along St. Michel up to the Luxembourg Gardens where we were attacked by birds scrambling for crumbs from my croissant. The place was jammed with joggers – I’ve never seen so many runners in my life. Even little kids were out running with their parents ! We walked past the Senate building and back to the hotel – but first found a great little neighborhood tucked back behind our hotel, complete with every type of restaurant known to man. We stopped at a Super Market and bought wine (of course), water and grapes ! Then we headed to the Eiffel Tower to meet Martha & My mother at 12:30.

We got there just in time to see them in line heading to the top of the Tower. Unfortunately, we found out later, they were in the wrong line – for the stairs! My mother could only make it to the first level – they tried to get on the lift to the 2nd level but were turned away. Close, but so far! My mother & Martha met a woman named Karen this morning at breakfast who joined My father & I while we waited for the girls to come down the tower. Then we headed to Rue Clere for some shopping but forgot the shops are all closed on Sunday! We had lunch and My mother, my sister headed to Musee d’Orsay while My father and I walked back to the Metro & got on the train back to the hotel. (My father is old hat at the Metro now …. he loves it !) We are watching Fiji play South Africa in the Rugby World Cup …. Paris is still recovering from France’s victory last night. My mother was up until 3am with the revelers in the streets below. C’est bon!

Au revoir for now … we head to Normandy tomorrow. We are looking forward to some quiet time in the country!

According to customs data released on September 11, China exported 2.08 million tons of steel in August, the highest recorded since the beginning of 2009, and imported 1.59 million tons of steel and 350,000 tons of billet steel. This means that China has again realized net export of steel following a net import of steel sustained for five consecutive months since March 2009.

In upcoming months, China’s steel export situation will continue to improve, but recovery will be slow. And the influence of factors such as the sharp drop in domestic steel prices, the narrowing gap between international and domestic steel prices and the export tax rebate, China’s steel exports will continue to increase month-on-month.

Analysts from Himfr.com believe that the recovery of China’s steel exports is in line with market expectation and is also the result of further improved overseas market demand. Since the beginning of the second quarter, the overall international economic situation has been improving gradually. Three powerful economic entities, the U.S., the EU and Japan, have effectively curbed their falling GDPs, and their decline rates have been narrowing. South Korea is the second largest target country of China’s steel export, and its GDP increased by 2.3 percent in the second quarter compared to that of the first quarter.

Since the beginning of the second half of 2009, international steel prices have been slowly rising. The trend of increasing prices for China’s domestic steel ended in the beginning of August, after which prices started to fall rapidly. Therefore, the gap between international and domestic prices has gradually narrowed, which means that China’s domestic steel prices have become more competitive and much more attractive to purchasers.

In August, China imported 49.68 million tons of iron ore, down 14.5 percent compared to the 58.08 million tons of July. According to customs data released on September 11, in the first eight months of 2009, China imported 404.90 million tons of iron ore, up 32 percent year-on-year. The total amount spent reached was 30.938 billion U.S. dollars, and the average price of the ore was 76.41 U.S. dollars per ton.

According to the statistics from umetal.com, the total iron ore storage volume of China’s 19 ports on September 11 was 73.74 million tons, down 390,000 tons compared to that of the same time the previous week. The price of iron ore peaked at 110 U.S. dollars per ton, but has now dropped to about 80 U.S. dollars per ton.

Ever notice all the lack of positivity around you? My oldest son had try-outs for competitive soccer these past two weekends. It was in a dome, an inside field, as there is lots of snow outside and playing on a soccer field is not an option. It is well made with soccer fields surrounded by a track field inside a huge dome.

The parents have to stay on the other side of the track field and not come onto or even close to the soccer field. And all I heard for the past two weekends around me was how people were tired of waiting while they play. It was hard on the back to sit where there is no support for the back and hard on the legs to stand up. The try-outs were just an hour and a half. For the most part, only 3 session in those 2 weekends. I could hear all that negativity around me. I tried to ignore them and enjoy the try-outs. I tried to observe how my son did compared to the others, because you know the first question out of a 9 year old will be:” How did I do?”.

What I knew, and still amazed me during that time happened after the try-outs. The kids of those parents were the negative ones about their performance on the field. They were the ones convinced they did not make the team. And the parents were shocked at their attitude about their performance. The positive parents, the parents I hung around with, had the more positive kids. They were the kids that are convinced they have a shot at being on the team. Now my son on the other hand, he came out and said: “I made the team.” He is really convinced. He did well, I have to admit. And I am convinced they will recognize it as well and give him a spot. My point is we transfer our attitude to our children. If we think our kids don’t have that positive attitude towards life, then we should look at ourselves before we tell them to change their attitude.

We choose who we want to be and in the process, teach it to our kids. We owe them, better yet, it is our responsability to show them how to have a great attitude about life and live by that attitude. The performance will follow our attitude, our mindset. It is the same in our business, love life, etc. The attitude we possess his our choice. Wear your best attitude for 30 days and when you see yourself being negative, change on the spot and think positive. And tell me what your result were after 30 days and see for yourself.
