As a trial run, we bought a stainless steel composter and 2 filters and started to compost our kitchen scraps early Spring 2008. We changed the filter once in the summer. During the initial 6 months, there was
1. no offensive smell to humans
2. no attractive smell to bugs
In September we ordered more filters. We are happy with our composter and will continue to recycle our scraps.

There’s really not much to say about this, but if you have the “Stainless Steel Compost Keeper”, these replacement filters are must. Each one really does last a while, so you will not need to have many of these… but they work well.

Having a stainless compost keeper for more than 4 years, getting an affordable replacement has been a search for us for the last three since the manufacturer suggests replacing filters every 6 months. In the meantime, we have been hot water rinsing(and air drying) since but needing a replacement. The filter works well and can keep a couple weeks of food scraps from leaking odors while we filled the holder before the trip to the compost bin outside. These are priced 40% less than the replacement filters where we bought the compost keeper, so we are happy to find an affordable supplier and convenience. Living in a rural area, even the closest Target is an hour round trip in just driving. So thanks Amazon for bringing affordable products to us!

I have used this compost bucket and filters for a number of years and the filters are easily washed and used over and over again. If I recall correctly, I think they lasted more than a year with constant use and keep the kitchen counter oder-free. Highly recommend this system for counter-top composting items to be taken to the compost pile when filled.
